Former Prof Kulik Named Texas League Pitcher of the Week
GLASSBORO, NJ – Former Rowan University left-hander Ryan Kulik was selected the Texas League of Professional Baseball Clubs Pitcher of the Week.
Kulik (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), now with the Double-A Springfield Cardinals, pitched seven shutout innings in a 2-1 victory over Frisco (July 3). He only allowed two hits and struck out one hitter. Kulik has won his last two starts, putting together a 16.1 scoreless innings streak. This season, he is 3-5 with a 4.73 earned run average and 24 strikeouts in 13 starts.
Last year, Kulik was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 245th pick in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He spent the 2008 season in Single-A with the Batavia Muckdogs and Quad Cities River Bandits. Kulik was a combined 5-5 with a 5.00 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 14 appearances. He began this year with the Single-A Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals going 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA and 17 strikeouts in four games. Kulik was moved up to Springfield on April 26.
