Biehn and Hayes Earn All-America Honors at NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships

MARIETTA, OH – Sean Biehn and Kyle Hayes finished fourth in the javelin and long jump respectively at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday. The championships are being held at Don Drumm Stadium on the campus of Marietta College.

Biehn (jr. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) recorded a throw of 200’ 1” (60.98 meters) for All-America honors. Hayes (so. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) posted a distance of 23’ 2.75” (7.08 meters) in the long jump to earn All-American. It is the second straight year Hayes has been an All-American, he took seventh place in 2008. The top eight competitors in each event are named All-Americans. Mark Lisa (fr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) also competed in the long jump. In the preliminaries, his best jump was 22’ 3.75” (6.80 meters) which was just short of the cutoff for the finals (22’ 5.25”, 6.84 meters). Brock Solveson from Concordia University (WI) won the javelin with a toss of 208’ 5” (63.52 meters). Eric Bertelson from Buena Vista University captured first place in the long jump with 24’ 2.5” (7.38 meters).

In his first NCAA appearance, Biehn was fifth among the 17 entrants in the javelin. His top throw of the season was 204’ 6” (62.34 meters) at the NYC Qualifying Challenge (May 9). Three times this season Biehn recorded NCAA provisionals. The NCAA Division III automatic is 205’ 1” (62.50 meters), while the provisional is 188’ 8” (57.50 meters).

Lisa and Hayes were 11th and 12th respectively among the 17 competitors in the long jump. Lisa’s top jump of the season was 23’ 5.25” (7.14 meters) at the Towson University Invitational (Mar. 28). Hayes recorded his best leap of 23’ 4.75” (7.13 meters) at the NYC Qualifying Challenge (May 9). This year, Lisa and Hayes both posted NCAA provisionals twice. The NCAA Division III automatic is 23’ 11.5” (7.30 meters) and the provisional is 22’ 11.75” (7.00 meters).

Kevin Gauntt (jr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) qualified in the 110 meter hurdles. The trials for the 110 meter hurdles are on Friday, May 22 at 3 p.m. and the final is on Saturday, May 23 at 1:45 p.m.
