GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s outdoor track and field team took second place and the women came in third at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Saturday. Rowan’s Bill Fritz was named the NJAC Male Coach of the Year and Mark Lisa was selected Co-Rookie Male Athlete of the Year. The conference meet was held at Rowan University.

Lisa (fr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) won the long jump with 23’ (7.01 meters) which was a NCAA provisional (7.00 meters). His best NCAA provisional this season is 23’ 5.25” (7.14 meters) at the Towson Invitational. Kyle Hayes (so. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) followed in second place with 21’ 9” (6.63 meters).

Sean Corey (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) was the winner in the javelin with 195’ 4” (59.53 meters) and Matt Tholis (fr. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) followed in second place (195’ 2”, 59.50 meters). Both throws were NCAA provisionals (57.50 meters). Corey’s top NCAA provisional is 198’ 9” (60.58) from the Wake Forest Open. Tholis posted a NCAA provisional of 198’ 7” (60.54 meters) at the Lions’ Invitational. In the javelin, Antonio Tronco (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) came in third (175’ 9”, 53.58 meters) and Anthony Ruggeri (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was fourth (170’ 1”, 51.85 meters).

Mike Rivera (sr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) took second place in the 1500 meters (4:05.60) and the 5000 meters (15:16.09). Greg Kuczynski (sr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) came in fifth (15:25.79) in the 5000 meters. Andrew Vasta (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) finished second (10:19.23) in the 3000 meter steeplechase and John Fessler (so. Rancocas, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) was fifth (10:36.61).

Ben Bradley (so. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) finished third in the 400 meter hurdles (56.59). Nehemiah Burney-Porter (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) had a third place in the 110 meter hurdles (15.55). Kevin Gauntt (jr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) ran a time of 14.69 in the 110 meter hurdles prelims which was a NCAA provisional (14.90). He did not compete in the final because of an injury.

Jason Yanchuck (jr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) finished third in the shot put with 45’ 4.25” (13.82 meters). Steven Hague (so. Vineland, NJ/Buena Reg.) had a fifth place in the discus (130’ 4”, 39.74 meters). In the 10,000 meters, Brian Quilty (so. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) and Dan Ratty (sr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) were fourth (33:38.42) and fifth (33:45.50) respectively.

The men’s 4x400 meter relay had a third place (3:25.64) while the 4x100 meter relay was fourth (43.25). The 4x400 relay consisted of Brian Makinson (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Bradley, Jayce Maxwell (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Dan Collier (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson). Hayes, Brian Thomas (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Burney-Porter and Maxwell were on the 4x100 meter relay. The women’s 4x100 meter relay took third place (50.91) and the 4x400 meter relay also was third (4:11.87). Both relays included Colette Lortz (fr. Sussex, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Amirah Muneer (fr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Heidi DeGuzman (fr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) and Eileen O’Mara (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.).

Angela Patane (sr. Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.)took second place in the 10,000 meter run (40:22.48). In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Jena Peacock (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) finished second (11:50.96) followed by Danielle Czohla (fr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) third (12:13.46). Peacock also had a seventh place in the 1500 meters (5:02.34).

Muneer came in third in the 400 meters (59.97) and eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.38). Liz Guarini (so. Steinertville, NJ/Steinert) was third in the 5000 meters (19:58.25). Rosalee Johnson (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.09). DeGuzman finished fourth in the 100 meter dash (13.13) and she was fourth in the 200 meters (26.72). O’Mara came in fourth in the 1500 meters (4:56.65) and sixth in the 800 meters (2:27.42).

In the field events, Dannielle Warren (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) took third place in the long jump with a leap of 17’ (5.18 meters). Laura Idell’s (fr. Waterford, NJ/St. Joseph) toss of 117’ 4” (35.77 meters) in the javelin was good for third. Rachel Pantaleo (fr. Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Twp.) followed fourth (114’ 11”, 35.03 meters). Michelle Forrester (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) tied for fifth in the high jump with 4’ 9.75” (1.47 meters). Lortz finished sixth in the long jump (15’ 10.5”, 4.84 meters).

Rowan will compete at the NYC Qualifying Challenge on Saturday, May 9 at 3 p.m. The meet will be held at the ICAHN Stadium on Randall’s Island (NY).
