Baseball Travels to Kean for NJAC Championship Tournament First Round

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team travels to Kean University for the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m.

Rowan (20-13-1) is the sixth seed in the conference tournament, while Kean (32-7) is the top seed. Kean is the defending conference champion. Also in the first round on Tuesday, fifth seeded Ramapo College (19-16) plays at second seeded Montclair State University (22-13) and the third seed William Paterson University (22-15) hosts the fourth seed The College of New Jersey (20-16-1).

The remainder of the double elimination tournament continues on Thursday, April 30 at the three sites of the highest remaining seeds. The tournament moves to the highest overall remaining seed on Saturday-Sunday, May 2-3. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

This is Rowan’s seventh straight appearance in the NJAC Championship Tournament. The Profs have won 13 conference championships (2004, 2003, 1999, 1979, 1978, 1977, 1973, 1971, 1970, 1968, 1967, 1965 and 1958). Last season, Rowan defeated The College of New Jersey, 6-2 in the first round and William Paterson, 14-6 in the second round. The Profs lost their next two games to Kean, 18-9 and Montclair State, 7-2.

During the regular season, Kean swept a doubleheader at Rowan. The Cougars won the first game, 6-3 in 12 innings and took the second, 10-6 in seven innings. Rowan lost its final two games of the regular season to Montclair State, 5-3 in 10 innings and 11-1. Rowan split a doubleheader at William Paterson. The Pioneers won the first contest, 20-9 and the Profs took the second, 12-5 in six innings. Against The College of New Jersey, Rowan had a 4-2 victory in the first meeting and TCNJ won the second game, 9-2. Ramapo beat Rowan, 9-7 in the first game, while Rowan had a 7-4 win in the second.
