TOWSON, MD – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Towson University Invitational on Saturday.
Mark Lisa (fr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) won the long jump with a distance of 23’ 5.25” (7.14 meters). His jump was better than the NCAA provisional (22’ 11.75”, 7.00 meters). Kevin Gauntt (jr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) was the winner in the 110 meter hurdles (15.09).
Matt Tholis (fr. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) and Anthony Ruggeri (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) took second and third respectively in the javelin. Tholis had a throw of 183’ 7” (55.95 meters), while Ruggeri’s toss was 171’ (52.13 meters). Steve Hague (so. Vineland, NJ/Buena Reg.) placed third in the discus with 127’ 7” (38.88 meters). Jason Yanchuck (jr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 44’ 3.5” (13.50 meters).
In the 10000 meters, Brian Quilty (so. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) captured second place (33:48.53). Devon Hausmann (fr. Folsom, NJ/St. Joseph’s (Hammonton)) finished third in the 100 meters (11.73). Ben Bradley (so. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) had a third place in the 400 meter hurdles (59.23) and Nehemiah Burney-Porter (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) took fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.58).
Brian Makinson (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was fifth in the 400 meters (51.57). Mike Rivera (sr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) claimed sixth place (4:08.43) in the 1500 meters, followed by Greg Kuczynski (sr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) eighth (4:10.30). Dan Collier (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) took seventh in the 800 meters (2:03.05). In the 5000 meters, Jake McCormack (fr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) captured eighth place (16:33.38). Eric DuBois (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) came in 10th place in the 800 meters (2:04.24) and 1500 meters (4:14.87).
Rowan finished second in the men’s 4x100 (44.14) and third in the 4x400 meter relay (3:30.84). Brian Thomas (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Gauntt, Burney-Porter and Jayce Maxwell (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) made up the 4x100 team. The 4x400 relay consisted of Makinson, Bradley, Collier and Hausmann.
The women won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:05.85. The team was comprised of Eileen O’Mara (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.), Jena Peacock (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy), Alli Catenacci (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Amira Abdullah (fr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek). The 4x400 meter relay of Catenacci, Heidi DeGuzman (fr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken), Lisa Jones (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and Amirah Muneer (fr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) took fifth (4:19.51).
DeGuzman came in second place in the 100 meters (12.72) and fourth in the 200 meters (26.58). Jones had a sixth place in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:54.78), which broke the school record (13:11.77). Muneer captured seventh in the 400 meters (1:01.98) and Rosalee Johnson (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) was seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (17.48). Heather Carbone (so. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) placed ninth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.22.
In the javelin, Laura Idell (fr. Waterford, NJ/St. Joseph) and Rachel Pantaleo (fr. Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Twp.) finished fourth and fifth respectively. Idell recorded a throw of 106’ 10” (32.56 meters), while Pantaleo’s toss was 106’ 7” (32.50 meters). Dannielle Warren (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) came in fourth in the long jump with a distance of 17’ 1.5” (5.22 meters).
Rowan travels to the Penn Invitational on Saturday, April 4 at 9:00 a.m.
