Corey Wins Javelin at Wake Forest Open with NCAA Provisional

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track and field teams started the 2009 outdoor season at the Wake Forest Open on Friday. The two-day meet continues on Saturday.

Sean Corey (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) won the javelin with a throw of 198’ 9” (60.58 meters) which was a NCAA provisional. Matt Tholis (fr. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) came in sixth with 192’ 2” (58.57 meters) and he also had a NCAA provisional. The NCAA provisional for the javelin is 188’ 8” (57.50 meters). Sean Biehn (jr. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) and Anthony Ruggeri (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) were 10th (187’ 1”, 57.03 meters) and 14th (171’ 11”, 52.41 meters) respectively in the javelin.

Kevin Gauntt (jr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) qualified for the 110 meter hurdles final on Saturday. He recorded a time of 15.48 in the prelims and was 13th overall. Brian Makinson (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had a ninth place in the high jump “B” with a height of 5’ 9.75” (1.77 meters). Nehemiah Burney-Porter (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) was 17th in the 110 meter hurdles prelims (15.74). He also finished 19th in the triple jump with 40 9” (12.42 meters). Mike Rivera (sr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) came in 19th in the 5000 meters (15:24.98).  Dan Ratty (sr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) took 16th place in the 10000 meter run in 34:17.26.

Heidi DeGuzman (fr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) qualified for the 100 meter dash final. She ran 12.58 in the prelims and was 14th overall. Jenna Frederico (fr. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) tied for eighth place in the pole vault. She had a height of 9’ 0.25” (2.75 meters). In the 5000 meters, Danielle Czhola (fr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) finished 24th (19:19.23) and Liz Guarini (so. Steinertville, NJ/Steinert) was 26th (19:33.25).
