Rowan Defeats Ramapo, 4-0 In Final Regular Season Game

MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated conference opponent Ramapo College, 4-0 in the last regular season game on Thursday. Midfielder Julie Cairone scored three of the four goals.

Rowan has a 14-4 overall record and is ranked eighth in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coaches Poll. The Profs were undefeated in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with a 6-0 mark to capture the conference title. Rowan receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament as the NJAC champion. Pairings for the national tournament will be announced on Monday, November 9.

Cairone (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) also had one assist. Forward Lauren Ross (sr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) contributed with one goal while forward Laura DiMenna (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and midfielder Jenna Lombardo (sr. Barnegat, NJ/Southern Reg.) each had one assist.

Rowan totaled 17 shots and Ramapo only took three. Goalie Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made two saves for her fifth shutout. For the Roadrunners, goalies Megan Tierney (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills), Amanda Ferry (fr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) and Rebecca Elliott (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick) combined for six saves.

Cairone’s first goal was unassisted at 14:26. In the second half, Ross found the cage on a pass from Cairone (36:50). Cairone made the score 3-0 with her second goal (45:21) with an assist from DiMenna. The final goal by Cairone came at 66:15 and was assisted by Lombardo.
