GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University offensive lineman Josh Weiss and free safety Mike Barone were selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Team.

Weiss (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) received first team honors, while Barone (sr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) was selected to the second team. The members of CoSIDA by districts selected the Academic All-District teams. The first team selections move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.

To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade point average (GPA) and be a starter or significant reserve. The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Weiss is majoring in accounting with a 3.54 GPA. He has started every game on the offensive line over the past two seasons. Weiss anchors an offensive line that ranks first in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in scoring offense (42.9) and rushing (242.4). The Profs are third in total offense (394.8) and fourth in pass efficiency (120.7). Rowan is tied for third in the conference in sacks allowed (six). Weiss was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II second team in 2008.

Barone has a 3.30 GPA in biological sciences. He has totaled 25 tackles, 14 solo and 11 assisted, one tackle for a loss (-4 yards), one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Barone is first on the team with six pass breakups and four interceptions. Earlier this year, he tied the school record with a 100 yard interception return for a touchdown. Barone is third in the NJAC in passes defended (10) and tied for third in interceptions (four). He is part of a defensive unit that leads the conference in total defense (222.2), pass defense (127.1), pass defense efficiency (79.6) and interceptions (14). Rowan is second in scoring defense (13.5) and third in rushing defense (95.1). The Profs are tied for third with 19 sacks. This is Barone’s second straight CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II second team selection.

The Profs are 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Rowan hosts Montclair State University in a NJAC game on Saturday, November 7 at 1 p.m.
