Richard Stockton Upsets Rowan, 1-0 in NJAC Championship Tournament Semifinals

GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Laura O’Shea scored the game-winner at 58:51 in the second half to give the fourth seed Richard Stockton College a 1-0 victory over the top seed Rowan University in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday night.

Midfielder Rachel Carlson (fr. Mullica Twp., NJ/Oakcrest) passed the ball to O’Shea (sr. Petersburg, NJ/Ocean City). O’Shea sent a line drive from 25 yards out to the right side of the Profs’ goal. It was her fourth goal of the season.

Richard Stockton (14-6-1) advances to the conference final at the second seed The College of New Jersey (16-2) on Friday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. On Tuesday, The College of New Jersey defeated the third seed William Paterson University, 3-0. The NJAC champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Rowan took 25 shots, while Richard Stockton had five. Goalkeeper Maria Dorris (fr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) made nine saves for her sixth shutout in the Ospreys’ net. Profs’ goalkeeper Kate Harman (sr. Laurel Springs, NJ/Sterling) stopped two shots.

Rowan (15-2-1), ranked fourth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Rankings, must wait until Monday, November 9 to see if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
