Rowan Tops Penn State Harrisburg, 81-60 in Albright College Tip-Off Tournament Consolation Game

READING, PA – The Rowan University women’s basketball team defeated Penn State Harrisburg, 81-60 in the consolation game of the Albright College Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday.

Rowan improves to 2-2, while Penn State Harrisburg has a 0-3 record. The Profs were led by forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) with 24 points and eight rebounds. She made 12 of 18 field goal attempts. Jennings was named to the All-Tournament Team. Forward Michelle Lala (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) and guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) recorded 16 points apiece. Lala added eight boards and four steals. Guard Alissa Lamey (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) dished a career-high 12 assists, while guard Ashley Russo (fr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) contributed with five steals.

For Penn State Harrisburg, forward Daril Foose (fr. Altoona, PA/Altoona) totaled 14 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots. Guards Amaris Gardner (so. Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) and Dorthea Dixon (so. Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) both scored 11 points. Dixon compiled nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.

The Nittany Lions led, 35-31 at halftime. In the second period, Lala’s layup at 19:19 tied the game (35-35). The Profs went on a 17-4 run over the next 5:22 to go ahead, 52-39. Jennings and Lala both recorded six points in the stretch. Rowan’s largest lead of the game, 23 points (69-46), came at 7:50 on a layup by Lala. Jennings and Lala both posted 16 points in the second half.

In the first period, the score was tied three times with the last one (19-19) at 9:02. Penn State Harrisburg had an 8-2 run to go up, 27-21 at 6:15. Guard Nicola Zangari (fr. Etters, PA/Red Land) and Dixon each had three points. Rowan cut the deficit to three points (32-29) at 3:39 on a layup by forward Erin Farell (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee). The Nittany Lions added a free throw from Zangari (3:08) and a layup by forward Brittany Adams (fr. Dillsburg, PA/Northern) (1:40). Farrell hit two foul shots at 1:02 to make the score 35-31 at the intermission. Foose led Penn State Harrisburg with 11 first half points, while Catanzariti had nine for Rowan.
