MOUNT MORRIS, NY – Rowan University’s Jena Peacock took second place at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Atlantic Regional on Saturday to qualify for the national championships next weekend. The women finished 10th overall in the team scoring and the men came in 15th place.
The NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 21 at the Highland Hills Golf Course in Berea, OH. The women’s race is at 11 a.m. and the men follow at noon. The national championships are hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College.
Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) had a time of 21:38.4 over the 6K course. Jenn Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) finished 22nd (22:56.1). Joy Hanke (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was 88th (24:30.2) followed by Liz Guarini (jr. Steinertville, NJ/Steinert) 89th (24:32.7). The fifth runner to score was Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) who was 90th (24:33.2).
Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) finished 34th (26:13.0) in the men’s 8K race. Jake McCormack (so. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) came in 76th (26:56.7) while Stephen Mennitt (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) was 84th (27:13.5). Michael Carotenuto (fr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) and Jeff Terebey (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) were 104th (27:37.0) and 109th (27:42.8) respectively.
The women’s individual champion was St. Lawrence University’s Wendy Pavlus in 21:22.0. The men’s race was won by Peter Kosgei from Hamilton College with a time of 24:40.6. St. Lawrence and SUNY Geneseo were first and second in the women’s team scoring and qualified for the NCAA Championships. The men’s title was won by SUNY Cortland and SUNY Geneseo took second place. Both teams advance to the national championships.
The remaining at-large teams and individual selections for the NCAA Cross Country Championships will be made on Sunday, November 15 and posted on www.ncaasports.com. The NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional was held at the Highbanks Recreation Area in Letchworth State Park and hosted by SUNY Geneseo.
