POMONA, NJ – The Rowan University women’s cross country teams took second place and the men were third at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Saturday. The conference championship meet was held at Richard Stockton College.
The women had a team score of 50 points. Jena Peacock (so. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was the women’s individual champion. She ran a winning time of 22:03.90 on the 6K course. Joy Hanke (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished ninth (24:24.80) and Michelle Esten (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) came in 11th (24:46.10). Sisters Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Twp.) and Laura O’Mara (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) were 14th (25:01.02) and 15th (25:05.10) respectively.
In the men’s 8K race, Stephen Mennitt (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) was the first Profs’ runner to cross the finish line. Mennitt took fourth place with a time of 26:59.60. Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) came in seventh (27:06.52) followed by Jake McCormack (so. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) eighth (27:18.46). Brian Quilty (jr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) and Kunal Sharma (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) finished 23rd (28:25.77) and 24th (28:41.71) respectively. The men had a team score of 64 points.
After a week off, Rowan will travel to Geneseo, NY for the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Saturday, November 14.
