Rowan Defeats William Paterson, 1-0 To Advance in NJAC Tournament

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team defeated William Paterson University, 1-0 in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday night.

Midfielder Ryan Gordon (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) scored the winning goal at 55:52. He knocked in a pass from forward Dan Arnold (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) who had gotten a feed from forward Petter Lunde (fr. Asker, Norway/Asker VGS).

Rowan, the third seed, will travel to the second seed The College of New Jersey (7-5-4) on Wednesday, November 4 for a 7:30 p.m. semifinal game. In the other semifinal, number one Montclair State University (15-0-2) hosts the fourth seed Rutgers-Newark (13-4-4) at 7:30 p.m. In the first round, Rutgers-Newark beat the fifth seed Richard Stockton College, 1-0 in one overtime. William Paterson (8-5-6) was the sixth seed in the tournament.

The two semifinal winners meet in the conference championship on Saturday, November 7 at the highest seed. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Rowan took 11 shots while William Paterson totaled 16. Goalie Charlie Cunliffe (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) stopped five shots for his seventh shutout. For the Pioneers, goalie Dan Peragallo (sr. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) made four saves.
