No. 9 Rowan Defeats No. 8 Lynchburg, 2-1 in Overtime

GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Nicole Valianti scored the game-winner 4:41 into the first overtime to give ninth ranked Rowan University a 2-1 victory over eighth ranked Lynchburg College on Saturday.

Rowan midfielder Jenna Lombardo (sr. Barnegat, NJ/Southern Reg.) sent a pass to Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) in front of the Hornets’ cage. Valianti shot the ball by the diving goalie.

With the win, the Profs improve to 13-4, while the Hornets have a 15-4 record. Lynchburg led 1-0 after the first period. Forward Lindsay Leonard (fr. Yorktown, VA/Grafton) scored on a tip-in on a shot by forward Alllie Weir (sr. Richmond, VA/James River). At 55:41 in the second, Valianti tied the game (1-1). After a scramble in front of the cage, forward Lauren Ross (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) sent a pass to Valianti and she knocked it into the back of the cage.

Rowan took 21 shots, while Lynchburg had five. Profs’ goalie Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made one save. Goalie Sarah Cates (sr. Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) stopped seven shots for the Hornets.

Rowan travels to Ramapo College on Thursday, November 5 for its regular season finale at 4 p.m. The Profs clinched the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) on Tuesday to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
