UNION, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team shut out conference opponent Kean University, 4-0 on Wednesday night.
Forward Michelle Carrocino (so. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) led the Profs with two goals. Forward Jess Babice (so. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) and midfielder Emilie Wilson (sr. Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) each contributed with one goal and forward Mandy Silvesti (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) had an assist.
Rowan, ranked third in the region and 14th in the nation, has an overall record of 10-0-1. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), the Profs are in first place with a 5-0-1 mark. Kean has a 9-4 record with a 3-3 NJAC mark.
The Profs took 13 shots while the Cougars had nine. Rowan goalie Sarah Volkomer (jr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) stopped five shots for her fifth shutout. Kean goalie Leandra Russo (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) made four saves.
Wilson put Rowan on the scoreboard at 31:39 with an assist from Silvesti. In the second half, Carrocino made it 2-0 with a penalty kick at 51:19. The next two goals came in a three minute span. Babice scored unassisted (52:16) and Carrocino hit the net on a breakaway (54:18).
Rowan hosts New Jersey City University on Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m.
